Most ambassador programs peak in week three. The campaign ends, the rewards stop, and your best advocates go quiet. Our latest product release is about the opposite: three new ways to reward brand ambassadors and keep them earning, engaged and recognized long after a campaign wraps.

Here is what is new in Roster:

Why ambassador programs stall between campaigns

Commissions do one job well: they pay people when they drive a sale. But your best ambassadors do a lot more than sell. They post, review, answer questions in your community, and show up for launches. If the only reward in your program is a percentage of revenue, all of that work goes unpaid, and the people doing it notice.

The other gap is time. Rewards tend to cluster around campaigns, so the weeks in between go silent. Strong programs give members a reason to stay active every week, not just when a brief lands. This release gives you three new levers to do that: pay for the work, gift product anytime, and let ambassadors compete.

1. Cash Rewards: pay for the work, not just the sale

Cash Rewards let you pay ambassadors real money for completing a campaign, hitting a milestone tier, or earning a one-off bonus. You set a flat amount in the campaign builder or on a milestone tier. The ambassador sees it up front, earns it on completion, and it pays out in the next batch alongside their commissions.

  • Pay your own people directly. No marketplace and no middleman cut. The reward goes to the ambassador you already work with.
  • No hold period. Paid on approval in the next batch. There is no order to refund, so there is no returns window to wait out.
  • No pre-funding. No escrow and no budget cap. A reward is created on completion and paid in the normal batch.
  • One process. Cash and commissions run through the payout you already use, with the same approval flow and minimum payout.

What it means for you: you can reward the content, reviews and campaign work that never shows up as a sale, without a spreadsheet on the side.

2. Product gifting, anytime: no campaign required

This is one of our most-requested features, and it is now live. Until now, sending product in Roster meant attaching it to a campaign or a milestone. That works well for product seeding, where you want a post or a review in return. It is a lot of setup for a simple welcome gift.

Now you can send product or a reward on its own:

  • Welcome gifts on autopilot. Set a reward to auto-grant to every new member as they join a program.
  • One-off drops. Send a launch drop, a thank-you, or a seasonal gift to the members you choose, any time.
  • Every reward type. Works for automated Shopify product rewards, manual rewards you fulfill yourself, and custom rewards like perks or experiences.
  • Nothing goes unclaimed. A new "reward available" email lets members know a gift is waiting.

On Shopify, the member picks from the products you curate and the order creates itself. Seeding campaigns still work exactly as before when you want content back. You just no longer need a stand-in campaign to say thank you. New to the idea? Our guide to what product seeding is covers when to brief and when to simply gift.

What it means for you: seeding and influencer gifting run from one platform, and a welcome gift takes a minute to set up, not a fake campaign.

3. Leaderboards: friendly competition, no awkward numbers

Leaderboards turn the points, campaigns and content your ambassadors already rack up into live rankings they can see in their portal. Members see the top performers, their own standing, and how much more they need to reach the board.

  • Six boards to choose from: Points, Campaigns Completed, Actions Completed, Referrals, Social Engagement and Social Content.
  • You stay in control. Leaderboards are off by default. Pick which boards show, in what order, over a time window of up to 365 days.
  • Privacy-safe by design. Every board is count-based. Ambassadors see placement only, never each other's values, and never revenue or earnings.
  • Members find each other. Ambassadors can click through to discover one another, which builds your community as a side effect.

What it means for you: a reason for ambassadors to come back to the portal every week, with all the motivation of a ranking and none of the awkwardness of exposing anyone's numbers. For more ideas, see 10 ways to gamify your ambassador program.

How the three work together

Each feature stands on its own, but they are strongest as a sequence that covers a member's whole first months in your program:

  1. Day one: a welcome gift auto-grants the moment someone joins, so the first thing they experience is your product.
  2. First campaign: a Cash Reward for completing it, paid alongside any commissions they earn on sales.
  3. Every week after: a leaderboard that shows them where they rank and what it takes to climb.

Pay for the work, gift them anytime, and let them compete. That is how a program keeps moving between campaigns.

Frequently asked questions

How do you reward brand ambassadors?

Most strong programs combine rewards: commissions for sales, cash rewards for campaign work, product gifts for welcomes and launches, and points or leaderboards for ongoing engagement. In Roster, each can be enabled per program, so an affiliate program can be cash-only while an ambassador program leans on product and points.

Can I send product to ambassadors without a campaign?

Yes. Product, manual and custom rewards can now be sent on their own, either as a one-off to the members you choose or as a welcome gift that auto-grants when someone joins a program.

Can ambassadors see each other's earnings on a leaderboard?

No. Every board is count-based. Ambassadors see placement only, never revenue, earnings or dollar amounts.

Which Roster plans include these features?

Cash Rewards, product gifting and leaderboards are included on every plan, including Starter. See pricing for details.
